Family Care

Olympic View Dental has been serving the community for more than four decades providing the highest quality of dentistry to many of our friends and families. Following the legacy of many of the wonderful dentists who have served our community over the years, we are proud to continue on in the philosophy of "Family Dentistry" today. From Toddlers to Great Grandparents, Olympic View Dental is here to provide complete dental care services to you and your entire family.

Family care is a major part of our practice and we strive to accommodate whole families and their individual needs when it comes to planning and scheduling for dental appointments. Entire families are able to have their dental care provided in the convience of one practice setting. Our patients consist of children, teens, parents, grandparents, even great grand parents, and with the skills of our highly trained staff we are able to meet the needs of all of your family members.

Children's Dentistry:

Ages 2-4: Parents are encouraged to bring their "little ones" in for a free play appointment around the ages of 2-4 years. At these appointments your child can begin to feel comfortable in the dental office surroundings which will make their future dental appointments a pleasure for both of you. Your child will get a tour of the office and will also be invited to hold and touch the dental instruments safely, while being shown how they will be used by the doctor at their next appointment. It is a very fun experience for all children, and we encourage parents to take this opportunity with their children at this early stage of their young lives.

At age 4 we will then schedule your child for a comprehensive oral and dental exam. This appointment consists of taking all appropriate dental x-rays as well as cleaning and polishing your child's teeth and applying fluoride treatments.

Teens and Young Adults:

This group of dental patients brings their own unique qualities to dentistry. It is during these years when dentists and hygienists begin to see patterns of oral hygiene, dental disease and other trends immerge that will influence and remain with a patient throughout their lifetime. For this reason, our entire staff at Olympic View Dental works diligently to pay close attention to our patients in this particular age group and to address the very specific dental care needs of our adolescent and young adult patients.

It has been Dr. Chilton's experience that it is this particular group of patients along with seniors who exhibit the greatest incidences of dental cavities than any other age in life. After early childhood, many people think that they will not have any more cavities but unfortunately for many young adults and teens, we see that the number of cavities is on the rise. There are many factors which have influenced this increase including our fast pace lifestyle, our quick access to "food on the go" as well as the very high consumption of carbonated beverages that we drinks. Many children who have been cavity free for years all of the sudden reach their teens and develop multiple cavities. This trend is sad but very common and must be addressed quickly in order to stop the spread of decay causing further damage to otherwise healthy teeth.

It is the commitment of the doctors and staff at Olympic View Dental to review the issue of diet and home care with every teen and young adult in our practice to assure each patient has a chance at a healthy beautiful smile. We offer a Cavity Prevention program to all of our patients who fall into this category, and with a patient's willingness to adhere to its guidelines, many are able to reestablish good dental care practices early in their lives.

Stay tuned to an upcoming article in "News Letters" regarding this issue.

Adult Care:

The dental needs of our adult patients typically fall into the following three categories of care;
Maintenance of their teeth with appropriate and timely oral examinations, regular dental hygiene visits, replacing or repairing of previously placed dental restorations, and cosmetic makeover procedures. (see Cosmetic Makeovers)

One of the areas of most concern for patients in this age group is the development of gum diseases. Gum disease can often come on quickly and with little or no obvious symptoms. A patient can be experiencing the beginning of gum disease and have very little pain or bleeding associated with the condition and therefore, it can often be easily overlooked. This is why we recommend that all of our patients establish and maintain regular dental visits and hygiene appointments in order to diagnose gum disease at an early stage avoiding possible loss of their natural teeth in the future. At Olympic View Dental, we are very aware of our role in the detecting of Gum Disease in our patients and we are committed to aggressive treatments with proven and effective therapies which have helped many of our patient reverse the effects of this condition.

Most of the adult patients that we see at Olympic View Dental also have other family members in our practice, and we take great pride in being able to coordinate scheduling multiple family members' dental appointments in a timely and convenient manner that fits into your individual family's lifestyle.

So whether you are an adult who is interested in a Cosmetic Evaluation, routine dental care and hygiene, restoring old dentistry or maybe concerned about possible gums disease, the doctors and staff at Olympic View Dental are always here to meet every dental care and concern that you might have. Adult dentistry is one of the cornerstones of our practice, and one of the reasons that our patients have regarded Olympic View Dental as truly a "superior" General Dental Practice.

Senior Dentistry:

The seniors in our practice are very special to us and we strive to provide them with a comprehensive dental care program which addresses their very specific dental and medical needs and consideration. Dr. Chilton has completed additional training and education at prestigious medical centers and universities, which enables them to provide the highest quality of care to our patients at this stage of their lives. Many of these patients who are now in their senior years have "grown" with us in our practice over the years, and together with their families' continue to choose Olympic View Dental for all of their dental care needs.
